Presenter, Calling Out the Warrior Within: finding your warrior voice through writing

Kate McDonald is a writer and storyteller. She has led numerous writing workshops and storytelling circles, telling both Traditional stories as well as sharing Cultural Teachings. She has visited many schools and other venues inManitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario to read from her work, discuss writing, as well as workshop students through the creative writing process. Her work focuses on connecting people with their “voice” both creatively and personally.

“As an artist I would not be where I am today without the mentorship I received from other artists during the beginning of my career. It helped shape who I am, both as an artist and as a human being. I believe it is now my responsibility—and honour—to pass along that same gift as best I can. This is why I continue to be passionate about writing for—and working with—young people.

I believe that now, more than ever, artists need to make themselves known. We need to be visible in our communities and—through our art and mentoring—offer youth a different view of the world. Art brings us options. It offers us a voice and a way to connect. If we offer this to our children, starting when they are very young, I think we can make changes. I have seen this with the students I have worked with.”
